Dance-songs

Dance-songs strand represents the earliest heritage of urban music in Shkodra. The term dance does not hint at necessary dancing being present; rather, the literal meaning is that these songs are sung. The dance-songs stock involved songs posing high affinity with the wedding ceremony, shtregulla songs, and the songs of leisure activities (going on a picnic). Today, out of the dance songs, only the wedding ceremony songs are performed.

Bearers of the dance songs (wedding ceremony) come in several variants

Songs performed without accompaniment,

Songs accompanied by dajre,

Songs accompanied by typical aheng instruments.

The musical element of the dance songs has also been useful to the creative work of professional composers, mainly from Shkodra. Renowned scholars have studied and identified valuable phenomena of this heritage.
